Selecting a blackjack seat

Normally, any seat at blackjack is as good as any other. However, there are some small differences that can help your game. When first learning you might want to avoid the first-base seat, as this position will be under the gun to play first. You might find yourself feeling rushed, thereby opening yourself to the possibility of making a mistake. On the other hand, the last seat or third base, allows you plenty of time to play your hand. Again, if you are new at the game, sitting in the last seat might bring some undue pressure from other players. This is because your play is immediately before the dealer and any table losses might be blamed on you. Always remember this rule: play your hand correctly, regardless of anyone else’s comments. In fact, if you have trouble determining your hand total, particularly when you have an ace or two, ask the dealer. In 100 percent of the time the dealer will help you total your hand and might even suggest what action to take. One example I recently saw, was a player who stayed on a 5 and 4 total hand. The bad part was he wouldn’t let anyone see it. He said he didn’t want to take the dealers “bust” card. As you can imagine he lost the hand. Lastly, if you are a knowledgeable basic strategy player, just take any seat and enjoy the game.
