Poker – a game of skill

There are only five games that a skilled player can win at consistently over the long run. One of those games is poker. (the others are blackjack, video poker, horse racing and sports betting) Why is poker different than all the other games? First and foremost, it is the one game that you play at that your opponent is not the house, but the other players. You are only battling against the players at the table with you. In card rooms and casinos the house does take a fee for providing a table, cards, chips and the services of a house dealer, but the house has no interest in who wins or who loses. How successful can you be at poker? It depends on two main factors: your skill at the game and your opponents skill.
