Craps – the best and worst

If you expect to beat the house at casino craps, you need to know which are the best bets and which ones to avoid. Remember, you can beat the house in the short run, but only by making bets that give you an advantage or at least reduce the house edge to its lowest denominator. Here are some bets that will help with your craps game:

  1. Adding odds to the pass line or the come bet is considered the best bet in the entire casino. Always make those bets.
  2. Always Place the 6 and 8 instead of betting on the Big 6 and 8. The Big 6 & 8 will only pay you even money, but if you Place the same numbers, you will get what I call the “bonus”, or a little extra in the form of odds when a 6 or 8 shows up.
  3. Stay away from Field bets. These one-time bets have a high house edge of 11.1 percent.
  4. Only play at casinos that offer double odds or better. With double odds, the house will have only a 0.60 percent edge. What this means is, when you are betting with odds on numbers you can expect to loss on 60 cents per $100 wagered. That is a good game to play at.
  5. Like most other casino games, streaks in craps will happen. Shooters will start to make numbers and hold the dice for lots of rolls. You need to take advantage when that starts to happen. How do you do that? You start to “Press” your bets; you might also want to get more numbers covered. Be alert for these “streaks” and play them to the max.
  6. The main thing to remember when playing craps is every hand will end in a 7-out. If you insist on leaving your bets on the table until the 7-out comes you’ll lose. The only way to be a long-term winner is to make smart bets, win, and than move on.
