• Around 600 BC the first use of a rabbit’s foot became popular. In Western Europe, prior to 600 B.C., man considered rabbits to be sacred, because of their belief that spirits inhabited the bodies of animals, and also because their belief that man descended from a select few of these animals.
• In 1864 there were 163 gambling houses in Washington D.C., the nation’s capital.
• Around 1593 Pietro Cellini, a Venetian invented the card game Bassette, which become very popular in France, Spain and England. Later it lost its favor at the end of the 17^th century to a new game called Pharaoh, or commonly called and spelled Faro.
• Ships on the US Atlantic coast must be outside the 3-mile limit before gaming is allowed, while in the Gulf of Mexico ships must be 9-miles from shore.
• The earliest known playing cards came from Chinese Turkistan. The suits were; coins, clubs, cups and swords.
• ·         In 1492, sailors aboard Columbus’s ship threw away all their playing cards thinking they were bringing them bad luck, almost immediately afterward land was spotted.
